MATERIAL. PROCESS. TRANSFORMATION.
Casey McCafferty, principal of CBM Design Group, exercises a respect for material and traditional technique in each piece he creates. Working with found objects and luxe slabs, applying both Old World craft and unorthodox experimentation, and mixing rugged materials with sleek metals and glass, Casey seeks the intersections where tactility, substance, and heft meet concept and metaphor. A recent transplant from Brooklyn, Casey creates work that reflects his natural surroundings, while exploring the boundaries between craftsmanship, art, and technique.
The Bone Collection was inspired by the concept of exposure: revealing the structure or "bones" of what lays beneath the surface. While the insides of furniture are often taken for granted and unappreciated, we imagined the internal framework as a hidden treasure. If we were to remove the outer upholstery, what beautiful bones would exist underneath? Traditional furniture makers consider the inner workings a place for secondary material. Because we come to furniture from a woodworking perspective, however, we believe that the bones are what make a piece special. So we revealed them in our Bone Collection.
